About The Workshop

This fun and informative workshop is presented under the auspices of the University of The Third Age, and will give players of all abilities an insight into the relationship between language and music in the Renaissance and Baroque, an understanding of which is crucial to expressive recorder playing.

The hour-long workshop will look at historical sources of articulation practices and participants will be guided by the tutor through practical exercises designed specifically for players of any level.  All materials required will be made available to the participants before the workshop.

Michael Piraner, member of Polyphonica Recorder Trio, is an experienced performer and teacher having played as soloist and in ensembles in Australia, the USA, UK, Holland, France and Germany.  He has a special interest in the topic of articulation and it's relationship to language and rhetoric and is delighted to welcome members of the U3A and their friends, and members of The Society of Recorder Players.

Prerequisites

Please have a recorder to hand to play the exercises, preferably a treble but this is not essential. Participants will be on mute but may request to play to the group if desired. Please ensure a secure internet connection as the workshop will be held online using Zoom. Workshop materials will be emailed to participants prior to the workshop.
