About The Workshop
Basic Technique for Recorder Players
This is the first of six online workshops in the 2025/26 series: Recorder Fundamentals presented by Michael Piraner.
Aimed at players of all abilities - those new to the instrument and more experienced players, or teachers who want to add to their teaching strategies, this workshop will look at:
- breath control
- hand postion
- finger movement
If you feel a barrier to the development of your technique, or struggle with a 'noisy' sound, this workshop presents strategies and exercises to overcome these issues, giving a firm foundation from which to progress.
The workshop consists of written materials with exercises demonstrated by the tutor.
All workshops in the series are recorded so that participants can revisit the content any time they wish.
Workshop materials are made available a few days before the event.
As is customary with Michael's workshops, participants are invited to take part in a competition based on workshop content to have the chance of winning a free half-hour lesson.
Prerequisites
Please have a soprano, alto or tenor recorder to hand. The ability to play two octaves would be advantageous or at least a few notes in the second octave. All exercises are presented in version for both C and F fingerings. You will be asked to mute your microphone when trying the exercises, but if you wish to play for the tutor to receive immediate feedback, this is welcomed if time permits.
